Infinity is present in each part

A great ring of pure & endless light
Dazzles the darkness in my heart
And breaks apart the dusky clouds of night.
The end of all is hinted in the start.

When we are born we bear the seeds of blight;
Around us life & death are torn apart,
Yet a great ring of pure & endless light
Dazzles the darkness in my heart.

It lights the world to my delight.
Infinity is present in each part.
A loving smile contains all art.
The motes of starlight spark & dart.
A grain of sand holds power & might.
Infinity is present in each part,

And a great ring of pure & endless light
Dazzles the darkness in my heart.

--Madeleine L'Engle

This poem warms me from my head to my toes. If we ever have a daughter, don't be surprised if her name is Madeleine. :)

:) fun stuff

Well, Wesley's party was a hit. He had a blast interacting with everyone who came. Thank you to you all who could make it. It was wonderful celebrating! Wesley got so many clothes and fun toys. I got him his first crayons, those little toddler crayons that they palm by Crayola. And, of course, some construction paper to doodle on. I can't wait for the day for him to say "mama, let's color togeher". Is that being idealistic? Hehe. Well i don't care. I can't wait for him to color.

Uncle Brandon made Wesley this fabulous cake that was nearly 2 feet tall. :) He was trying to make a cake the height of Wesley. It was such a yummy cake. I made Wesley his own personal cake, but really, he wasn't all that interested in it. I don't think he enjoyed the squishy icing between his fingers so that distracted him. He ate a little bit of the icing, but just a little. I think he was so tired already by this time that he was just disinterested. hehe.

And I was only mildly weepy on his birthday. He just looked like such a big boy all day that I had to keep my emotions in check. :) But it really was a fun first birthday.

So who else is excited about the inauguration? I can't believe that we are alive for this historical event. It's thrilling and I love putting little keepsakes in Wesley's babybook. He was born during one of the most historical presidential elections our nation has seen thus far. How exciting!

My friend just had a baby on Sunday (the day after Wesley's birthday) and I just think how incredible that this tiny baby was born before such an historical event. It make me feel a little weepy thinking that these babies are born for purpose. I don't know what Wesley will be when he grows up, but I pray that he will grow into a man of integrity and that he would follow in God's Word and trust it fully.

I'm a little sentimental when it comes to these babies being born. Don't be surprised if I talk about babies often. :) I think I'm allowed. hehe.

Gotta run!

Wesley Boy

I found this yawny picture of Wesley just a while ago and just wanted to post it. It is so sweet and he was so little. I just love him and thank God for my little blessing. Wow, I am really sentimental right now. :)

Happy Birthday Mama!

Well, yesterday was my mom's birthday! We didn't get to celebrate with her because my dad took her to a SPURS game in San Antonio. She did get to swing by my house to say hi to her little doodle bug. It's pretty fun to me that Wesley and his grandma nancy share a birthday week. :) He would have been born on her birthday if our doctor had an Operating Room open for her that day. (Remember, I had to have a C-Section because Wesley was just not budging).

Anyways cheers to mom on her birthday "week" since I didn't post this yesterday. I wasn't really at the computer at all. Wesley and I ran around all afternoon and then headed over to visit Nathan's family for dinner for Nathan's sister's birthday. Which, coincidentally is also on my mom's birthday. In fact, every birthday on Nathan's side of the family falls on a birthday of someone in my family. Pretty nuts, huh?
I am getting pretty excited about Wesley's birthday. I'm a little weepy, knowing my baby is a "big boy" and not a newborn. I just want to rock him and cuddle him and he just wants to run and play. He is a sweet boy and lets me give him kisses all over before he runs and plays. :)

I've just been thinking about last year at this time...getting ready, feeling anxious, sitting in Wesley's nursery just thinking about what it will be like when my little one finally arrives. It's so thrilling and exhilarating and scary. I knew that I was going to have to have a C-Section and that was really scary but I trusted that God knew what he was doing. And PRAISE God for the doctor's gifts because my son was a 10 lbs boy! Woooooo. Healthy though, and cute as can be.

Anyways...Happy Birthday week mom and I'm so glad I'm your daughter. I know a lot of girls who would have loved having a mom like you and I'm glad I'm the one that has you!

Oh, the picture above is from my wedding. Isn't she pretty?

Here toothy toothy toothy

Yesterday, Wesley had a low grade fever and yes, I freaked a little. I'm so tired of this sick season and ready for it to pass. But this morning he woke up happy and chipper and low and behold his top two teeth broke through and so now he officially has four teeth. His bottoms and now his itty bitty little tops. (which are coming at the same time) He was pretty cranky yesterday, now I know why!

Welcome little teeth. Oh, the food you will chomp.

Where have we been???

Well, I suppose updating you is in the stars tonight. Baby bear is sleeping, Papa bear is working, puppy bear is snoring in her harry potter closet (whole other post for another day) and I am suddenly wide awake. I think about updating you fairly often, dear friends, but I haven't had the inspiration. Definitely blogger's block!

Let's see. The last real post was when Wesley was sick with RSV, Nathan was sick with a cold and I was getting a cold. My darling friend Tiffany came for a visit and she introduced me to Airbonne (?) and I chugged that stuff. :) I found myself feeling pretty good and praise the Lord we are all feeling much better. 100% brand spankin new. Back to little jaunts to the park, grocery store, grandma's house, etc.

Nathan bought me Mario Cart for the Wii for our anniversary (which was last Wednesday...three years!!) and we have been having fun racing eachother. I'll be honest. I'm not very good. Once upon a time, when Nathan and I were just friends and having all sorts of "defining the relationship" conversations, I learned to play HALO just so that I could keep up with him and you know..flirt a bit :) Well, turns out I was AWESOME and kicked booty and thus our love affair with Halo I, II, & III began and it was THE cool thing. Well, when I got pregnant.....let's just say the nausea was too much and I ceased my video game playing days. Maybe a little Rock Band here, some Tetris there...but nothing major. Now I've discovered that my self proclaimed mad title of Princess of the Gaming World is severly overstated, because I find myself in last place far too often. :) Yeaa Yea, I'll get better. You just wait. Soon I'll be back to playing Halo all over again.

In other news, Wesley turns ONE in exactly one week. Next Saturday, the 17th. :) How fun is that? I've decided not to throw a major bash. I've just been thinking that it's okay for us to not go all out this year. Believe me, when he's bigger he will have all sorts of fun birthday parties. But I'm just feelin' low key this year and wanting to share it with just a small crowd. We will of course have pizza and ice cream and CAKE but nothing too fancy. So if you're wondering where your invitation is, well I didn't buy any! :) The only reason I would want to buy invitations for his first birthday is so that I can put one in his scrapbook. :)

He will have a marvelous day with his family and I of course will post pictures. I can't wait to see him with his first birthday cake. I always love babies and their "first" cake. So cute. I do want to find him a shirt that says "I'm ONE" or something. I might just make it if I can't find it. Any suggestions you moms out there?

Oh did I mention that when we took Wes to the Doc the first time he weighed 24.5 lbs and when we took him for his follow up he was 22.1 lbs. I knew he was going to lose a little bit since his appetite was gone. (I knew he was getting better when he would complain when we tried to stop feeding him hehe).

Ohhh and how could I forget. Wesley is saying "words". He says grandma, grandpa, mama, dada, dog, ball and he nods his head very enthusiastically when you ask him a question. And today he was signing "eat" fairly often. He usually just signs "more" and "all done" most often. Oh, and he says "buh bye". Now, none of these words are clear speech, but it's so beautiful hearing him speak. He knows what he's saying and he points often and claps and waves at EVERYONE he sees in the stores. He used to be VERY shy with his waves but now he flirts and waves and laughs at everyone without any shame.

He also loves his books and toys and will entertain himself all on his own. He loves sitting by the back door with books and toys spread around him while Stormy looks in from the outside. He just laughs at her.

We've also taken away the big high chair and brought in just a restaurant style high chair so that Wesley can sit at the table with us. I'm trying to teach him to use a spoon and plate/bowl. He eats very well and often wants to hold the spoon himself. Which is usually disastrous (see above picture) but we have fun :) I really enjoy having him sit at the table with us. He usually joins in the conversation and laughs hysterically when we laugh at something. It is so darn cute. :) This last picture is of Wesley at breakfast this morning dancing to the iPod. I think Chris Tomlin was playing (his oldddd stuff). I usually play some tunes in the morning. We are so groovy.

Well, this was random and not at all deep and inspiring, but it was fun to clear my head a bit. Ciao!
